Everyday Greetings
Learn how to greet others and introduce yourself in ASL.
Greetings
Start every conversation with a warm greeting. In Arabic Sign Language, greetings are usually accompanied by a smile and direct eye contact, which are culturally important.
| الإشارة | كيفية الأداء |
|---|---|
| Hello | Wave near the side of your head |
| Good morning | Waving gesture then motion the sun rising |
| Good evening | Hand sweeps down near the chin |
| How are you? | Point toward the person, raise eyebrows |
Introducing yourself
When introducing yourself, sign your name with the name sign that your Deaf community has given you. Fingerspell if you don't have a name sign yet.
| الإشارة | كيفية الأداء |
|---|---|
| My name is… | Tap chest then sign your name |
| Nice to meet you | Two hands shake briefly in front of you |
| I am from… | Point to yourself then gesture origin |
نصيحة: Always maintain eye contact while signing. Looking away can be seen as disengaging from the conversation.
